Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Imagine a world where at 18 you undergo a procedure to eradicate your ability to love - no heartbreak, no lust, no longing. You are assigned a match for life based on a personality evaluation and all is easy without the complication of love.

This is the premise of Lauren Oliver's new novel Delirium which came out February 2011. If you've enjoyed any of the dystopian fiction mentioned on this blog (Uglies, Hunger Games, or the one I can't mention), try this one. I have only read the first chapter, but the writing is truly excellent. Oliver's gift for sensory description is amazing. This is the first of a trilogy. The second, Pandemonium is to be released February 2012.
