I'm starting
Elijah of Buxton by Christopher Paul Curtis today. It's been suggested by several students. I've wanted to read it all year. It's a
Newberry Honour Book and a winner of the
Coretta Scott King Award. I'm looking very forward to it. If you'd like, here's a spot where you can preview the first chapter:
Elijah of Buxton Scholastic.
Like you, I had been wanting to read this book for ages, having heard great things about it from so many students, so I finally took it from my class library and read it at home in the spring (or was it in the winter?).
ReplyDeleteIt is a deep book, one that required my full attention. I found myself getting to know the main character, Elijah, and rooting for him along the way.
As I read this book, I couldn't help but reflect on history and ask myself why humans treat one another so cruelly.
This is a must-read!
